Here’s How Woke Federal Employees Could Keep DEI Alive In Defiance Of Trump’s Order
President Donald Trump signed an executive order purging diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) from the federal government. But groups of left-leaning bureaucrats could keep DEI alive if left unchecked.
Shortly after Trump signed his executive order, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) issued a memo to executive agencies directing them to put their DEI officials on leave and report any attempts within the departments to rename and conceal DEI efforts. The memo asks agency heads to “send an agency-wide notice to employees informing them of the closure and asking employees if they know of any efforts to disguise these programs by using coded or imprecise language.”
One such effort, The Daily Wire has learned, could be undertaken by employee resource groups (ERGs), identity-based organizations that were central to the Biden administration’s DEI agenda. Many ERGs function as de facto DEI offices, offering trainings, organizing conferences, and enforcing DEI policies in their agency. ERGs tend to be very left-wing, and in some cases only accept people if they belong to a certain race or share a specific sexual orientation.
Activist and reporter Robby Starbuck, known for fighting DEI in corporate America, told The Daily Wire that ERGs will be central to efforts to defy Trump’s order.
“Affinity groups like ERG’s are the hotbed where left wing radicalization occurs. We’ve seen it in company after company through our investigations,” Starbuck said. “The federal government must disband these divisive groups who control entry on the basis of race or sexual proclivity preferences. These groups are where many of the DEI schemes are hatched and I guarantee it’s the hotbed for planning how to conceal DEI in defiance of the President.”
“It’s critical that the president’s team take action by removing the bad actors in addition to disbanding these discriminatory affinity groups,” he added.
Some of the most active ERGs are in the intelligence committee — the NSA alone has 10. One of the agency’s ERGs hosted a training session on bias and privilege called “Privilege Decrypted.” It taught “NSA employees about bias, privilege and alternate perspectives.” The group even helped implement official DEI policy, the site explains.
The NSA may already be at work concealing DEI, Starbuck reported, posting screenshots of alleged documents indicating that the NSA has renamed its DEI efforts and is now referring to them under the banner of “Equal Employment Opportunity and Accessibility” while saying “the mission will remain the same.”

According to Starbuck, lawmakers must take steps to actually purge DEI from the government.
“Many are saying DEI is dead, but that’s just sadly not the case,” he told The Daily Wire. “Most of the people responsible for the ideology and implementation are still within government and working to undermine the president. We need proactive investigations to root them out and fire them,” he charged in a comment to The Daily Wire.
ERGs have been used to advance DEI beyond the NSA. One document from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, first uncovered by The Daily Wire explains that intelligence agents within the African American Affinity Network and the Latino Intelligence Network hosted a race-based leadership summit. The document adds that members of the Asian affinity ERG “have been particularly successful in creating a new framework and language guidelines for how we talk about the People’s Republic of China,” according to the document.
The ODNI had one of the most dramatic pride celebrations in the federal government, thanks in part to the Pride ERG. Intelligence agents, The Daily Wire first discovered, were invited to an event hosted by the ERG to have their nails painted the color of the transgender flag and to crochet their own pride flag. The ODNI’s Pride ERG also ran a blog series called “Why I’m An Ally.”
There’s also the CIA’s Pride Employee Resource Group, which organized the Intelligence Community’s 2022 Pride Summit. The event included sessions with titles like “Pride & Color: A Queer Person of Color Experience,” “Transgender Inclusion Training,” and “LGBTQIA+ & Disability.”
Outside the intelligence community, ERGs in the U.S. Geological Survey, Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Land Management, and National Park Service held a panel discussion as part of a celebration of “transgender day of visibility,” The Daily Wire revealed. Federal bureaucrats were invited to watch a mini-documentary on LGBT representation in the field of marine biology.
The Interior Department has a long list of employee resource groups, like the Fish and Wildlife Services’ BIPOC ERG, which exists to “promote solidarity and support among BIPOC employees and allies; in order to harness our collective strengths toward creating positive, lasting change that advances justice, equity, diversity, inclusion.”
Some agencies openly admit that the purpose of ERGs is to engage in political activism. The National Institutes of Health previously stated that employee resource groups are used to facilitate “employee activism inside and outside the workplace” while the Treasury Department similarly explained in its diversity and inclusion plan that employee resource groups would be leveraged to push DEI throughout the agency, meeting with bureau leadership “to identify methods to promote D&I throughout the organization.”
If all else fails, Starbuck says, Trump has no choice but to remove these workers all together.
“If they can’t be fired due to protections these bureaucrats built in, then send them to a new building in Siberia with no power, both figuratively and literally.”
