Britney Spears’ Ex-Husband Opens Up About Marriage To Pop Star
Britney Spears’ ex-husband Sam Asghari opened up about his brief marriage to the superstar singer, revealing what he called the “most difficult and weird spiral thing” he experienced in his lifetime.
Speaking on Kate and Oliver Hudson’s “Sibling Rivalry” podcast, the 30-year-old fitness trainer said learning about the constraints Spears had under her then-13 year conservatorship under her father, Jamie Spears, was shocking.
“One day I started learning about what the conservatorship is,” Asghari said. “And that’s when I was like, ‘Wait a minute. I thought I’m in America. What do you mean someone over the age of 18 needs permission from their parents?’”
“It’s such a ridiculous thing in this country to have to deal with,” he added, per Too Fab. “That was the most difficult and weird spiral thing that I’ve witnessed in my life.”

He said once he learned about it, all he could really do was offer the singer as much support as possible.
“I think the best thing to do is to provide support in that moment and that’s what I did, I provided as much as I could,” Asghari said. “This was my experience in life that I had to go through very gently because if you do anything wrong, you say the wrong thing…”
“One of the hardest things, I think, to deal with when you go into entertainment is your parents and the people around you, and everything that happens, and everybody that comes into your life that’s taken advantage — that damages you because those are the people that are closest to you,” he added, per Page Six.
“It’s never the fans, it’s never the media,” Asghari continued, adding that “they will never hurt you. Usually, the people that are around you, the people that you allow into your circle, you kind of are vulnerable to them. They take an advantage because they think, you know, you owe something to them or something, which is so ridiculous.”
The “Womanizer” hitmaker and Asghari started dating in 2016 and five years later, the two were engaged, Page Six noted. In November 2021, a judge finally terminated her nearly 14-year conservatorship.
Spears and Asghari tied the knot in June 2022 at a ceremony filled with famous stars and performers. In August 2023, Asghari confirmed reports that the two had split and he had filed for divorce after 14 months of marriage.
When asked if he has any regrets about marrying Spears, he said he had none and was “always gonna be grateful and happy that it ever even happened. It was so much that we gone through so much as a couple. We learned so much, and it was a beautiful experience.”
