RT is ‘resistance’ – Putin

The outlet is Russia’s only way of reaching the West, the Russian president has said

RT is the sole point of “resistance” to the global media hegemony of the West, which has tried to shut it down out of fear and intolerance, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said.

Putin spoke on Thursday at the 21st annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club in Sochi. The issue of RT came up during the question-and-answer period.

“Our journalists aren’t being allowed to work. Neither in the EU, nor in the US. They were shut down, placed under a bunch of restrictions,” Putin said.

“Today there is only one resistance point there – RT. Nothing else. The Anglo-Americans have a worldwide network of media, we don’t. But they still fear that one,” the Russian president added.

Putin brought up RT in response to a question about his alleged unwillingness to give interviews to Western media. He said this was not true, pointing to his interview with famous US journalist Tucker Carlson earlier this year, but added that he does not particularly want to address the population of countries whose governments censor Russian journalists and outlets.
