Texas Congressman To Introduce Bill Limiting Birthright Citizenship, Bolster Trump Executive Order
Representative Brian Babin (R-TX) is set to introduce a bill this week that would end birthright citizenship for the children of illegal aliens and put an end to “birth tourism.”
The Congressman from the 36th district of Texas will be joined by more than 20 Republican cosponsors who will sign onto the bill. The effort comes after President Donald Trump signed an executive order challenging birthright citizenship just hours after being inaugurated as the 47th president.
“It’s going to have a huge impact on our immigration system because it’s going to close loopholes that exploit birthright citizenship, and discourage illegal immigration and end the misuse of this really, this completely misinterpreted privilege,” Babin explained. “We cannot continue to have this abuse.”

If passed, the law would also limit birthright citizenship so that it couldn’t be used for “birth tourism,” a practice in which wealthy foreigners travel to the United States to give birth so that the child will be an American citizen. Neither children of illegal aliens nor children of immigrants with temporary visas would be eligible for birthright citizenship.
The effort to limit birthright citizenship has already been met with a legal challenge by the American Civil Liberties Union and other organizations, but Babin says that the suit will allow the Supreme Court to reconsider the issue.
“I welcome this lawsuit because we have to get this into the U.S. Supreme Court. It’s probably going to take several years for this to wind its way through the court system. But we want the U.S. Supreme Court to rule on this and give us a final ruling, because it has been misinterpreted.”
Trump signed several different executive orders pertaining to border security and immigration, including one declaring a national emergency at the border, an order to reinstate the Remain in Mexico policy, and another designating drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.
His flurry of executive orders was celebrated by Republican Study Committee Chairman August Pflugler (R-TX), who told The Daily Wire that “Biden surrendered our border to chaos – but President Trump is wasting no time taking it back.”
“These executive orders are exactly what the American people demanded when they voted for law and order: military deployment to the border, designating cartels as terrorists, and ending the Democrats’ catch-and-release scam,” he added. “The Republican Study Committee will work tirelessly alongside President Trump to seal our border, defend our communities, and make America safe again. This is what real leadership looks like: promises made, promises kept to the American people.”
